I have been working part time for almost two years. I am also in school full-time and a mom too two wonderful children one being special needs and I am overwhelmed the doctor's aren't helping my son and I am trying to handle everything plus my spouse is laid off so I am working more hours than usual and I also tore my PCL and my Achilles tendon. My problem is that I am depressed I feel like I'm so spinning my wheels I am behind on everything and my bills are stacking up and there is no end in sight. My MS is flaring constantly and I am having problems sleeping I go see my neurologist soon but my real problem is that my symptoms are starting to make even the smallest task impossible I have trouble walking around and getting out of bed. I ache constantly and feel like I am falling apart and the harder I try the more pain I am in.
Wow! That's enough to break anyone. Stress equals pain in the MS world. That explains why you are having issues. I would make a list of everything going on. Now scratch off what you can't control. Prioritize what is left and focus on one thing at a time. It is a process, but you can do it. Whenever something starts to spin out of control, I repeat " if I get stressed, I get sick and it's not worth it! " 30 days ago my life was insane! I thought there is no way we can pull this off! We did. A calm mind makes better decisions. Best of luck to you.
For the bills: You can call your credit card company and see if you can arrange a payment plan, I have been told there are some companies doing that. Mention exactly what you have shared with us. Also, if any bills are medical call them also. I paid off an mri at $50.00 a month. Just know that you need to be realistic about what you can afford to pay because you have to keep up with the agreement. Not all companies are scrooge and welcome all monies instead of writing off a debt. Also, please call the national ms society 1.800.344.4867 to find out what resources and support is available in your area, they have an extensive database at our disposal.
Muscle relaxing exercises work: tighten your forehead, hold it for five seconds then relax, next your cheeks, and mouth, do the same for all the muscles in your body. Notice if you have acquired the habit of keeping the muscles tense, yes? Now get into the habit of keeping the muscles soft - all the time! Just because you have a billion problems to solve that is no reason for adding to the pile with tense muscles, that will only freak out your nerves and send you into crisis and that will be your own doing, making you feel like ----.
Hug you family and know that you will get through this, even if you must file bancruptcy (sp?) it is only money. Spend some time thinking about happy thoughts, a smile your kid gives you, a soft hand on your partners arm, a sweet moment with family. All the good memories remembered will balance out the pile of other stuff sitting in front of you. Balance the scale, keep working on a plus to offset a minus, work at it, it will lighten the load and aid you in maintaining your sanity. Millions of us have gone through junk, maybe not the same description as yours but just as ugly. Remember the love and how beautiful that makes you feel, all that other stuff will keep getting smaller and more manageable. Quiet your mind with all the beauty you have made and the ugly will be less important, just another task to challenge you, nothing more.
