    Hi,
I want to start to work part time from my home. I currently work full time and am asking my employer if I can do this on days that I just cant seem to drag myself to work. Has any one had any issues with this? I am in administration, and this can be done and I work out of a State Agency? dose any one have any input? I was diagnosed 3 months ago...just wondering any advise out there?

    Hi mw58,

If I understand you correctly, you want to find out if you can work part-time in the office and part-time from home as an accommodation for your fatigue?  Telecommuting can be requested as a reasonable accommodation, and since you work for a state agency, they may already have a telecommuting/telework policy in place.  Start by checking your employment handbook to see if there is any information about requesting to work from home.  Then do a realistic assessment of your ability to work from home, so you will be prepared to discuss this option with your employer.  For example, do you have a quiet area in your home that will be free from the distractions of pets or children?  Do you have the technological requirements to work from home (e.g. high speed internet, computer access, a dedicated phone line, or other requirements).

Some employers are hesitant to approve telecommuting because they are concerned the employee could spend all day shopping online or napping and the employer would never know.  In case your employer has similar concerns, you may want to prepare some information about how you would remain accountable to your employe.  For example. can you prepare a spreadsheet to document how your time is spent when you are at home?  Can you email an update to your employer at the end of each day to outline what you have accomplished?  Maybe you and your employer can agree to do this for a probationary period only until you show that you are as productive at home as in the office.

Here is information from the EEOC about telecommuting as an accommodation in case it is helpful for you.

Just to let you and anyone know out there, I have worked from home via LiveOps, Inc for a few years. It makes ends meet. But check it out. It might be helpful.
