Hi all. I am not diagnosed, but my Drs. Have mentioned MS as a possibility. I just had more blood work done for my rheumatologist and the results came back showing a high white blood cell count. This is the first time in 2 years that any of my blood tests have shown anything. I had a spinal tap 2 years ago right after I started having problems and infection, including Lyme disease was ruled out. Does anybody know if MS effects white blood cell count or what would effect it and mimic MS?

Hi Melly. I tried to find information on our website about white blood cells.  I found this:

     http://www.nationalmssociety.org/What-is-MS/Definition-of-MS/T-cells

T cells are types of white blood cells.  The link mentions the presence of as well as increased/decreased numbers of certain T cells in people living with MS. I encourage you to ask your medical team about the high count, too, and how it might be related to MS.

This explains the other conditions that need to be ruled out before diagnosing MS, but I am not knowledgeable on how they relate to white blood cell counts: http://www.nationalmssociety.org/Symptoms-Diagnosis/Other-Conditions-to-Rule-Out
