Has anyone tried the Wahls protocol diet and did it work?? She basically cured her MS, which she was in a wheelchair, just with diet? Has anyone read her book and tried her approach?

I bought the book last year and have read many parts of it. I have yet to read all of it (too busy!). I watched the Paleo Way on Netflix, and there is a section where Dr. Walhs speaks and cooks with the TV host. When she was diagnosed with secondary progressive multiple sclerosis, that prompted her to change her eating habits. I am that crazy person that believes that you can cure some cancers by eating the right foods. Her diet is pretty much almost a paleo diet, but emphasizes eating a lot of vegetables. I was on the Swank Diet for about 6 months ("The Multiple Sclerosis Diet Book: A Low-fat Diet for the Treatment of M.S.- by Dr. Swank), which pretty much cuts out saturated fats, processed foods, dairy, and meat. The difference with Dr. Walhs approach includes eating healthy saturated fats and organ meats. I'm sure there are more differences but those are the main ones I noticed. I found out about Dr. Walhs book after being on the Swank Diet, and I believe I'm going to move forward with the Walhs Protocol diet instead. I like the fact the the diet was created by someone who had a late stage of MS, and was actually able to see and feel the recovery. Dr. Swank's diet is a bit out dated in my opinion, now that I come to think of it (but he got the gist of it!).

So I guess to answer you, yes I've sort of have tried the Walhs protocol (but without eating saturated fats, meats, and all dairy products). My last relapse was October 2016, when I had double vision. I changed my diet in the summer of 2017. Although it has been tough, a healthy diet is the best way to achieve maximum health.

Also check out this site with some info about both diets and more!

    Good luck!

Hi !  I've been doing the Wahls Protocol Level 3 - nutritional ketosis -  for the since Oct 2017 and I'm convinced it is helping me maintain and not progress.  I even feel I am improving ever so slowly.  I was diagnosed in 1989 and am now using a power w/c at home and manual chair when I go out.  I drive with hand controls and am independent with self care. Terry Wahls protocol is not just diet.  Mindset, meditation, electrical stim/exercise, detox are all important and she encourages working with a functional medicine practitioner to be sure you have guidance to individualize the program.  She has a lot of content on YouTube and there is a Facebook group as well.  I have found these resources very helpful.
