My Story 2 Appreciate this

It was in August of 2003, at the age of 44, that I noticed on that hot day that I could not see the color inside the flower on the wallpaper of my kitchen. I went to my opthamologist, and he did a computerized test and sent me to a specialty eye doctor. This doctor sent me to a neurologist, and he did an mri and sent me to Vanderbilt MS clinic. All in the space of a couple of months, all of these doctors did their best for me and were right on their game. I was diagnosed with RRMS in October. I had other other symptoms by then -- electric shock when I bent my head forward. This sensation continued to travel into the trunk of my body, and my vision got much worse. I was very, very afraid. I had never heard of ms. I made the choice to go on Rebif, and have now been on it for almost 12 years. Most everything healed back, and about 4 years ago I also changed my diet. Went off the deep end with that for a while, but came back to just doing a large variety of foods, basically the normal healthy diet recommended for everyone. Went off Rebif for about 7 months, trying the diet only, but I had a numb area on my leg, so I went back on it. I think the Rebif, the diet, low stress lifestyle, and lower salt and saturated fats have all made a great impact -- with the good results I have had. Also, vitamin D -- I take a 50,000 IU pill weekly and sit in the sun for about 20 minutes as often as I can. Must say that my results have been very even, no relapses, when I started watching what I ate. That was not the case beforehand, so I do believe that it takes all of the above working together. But it takes ALL of the above! My best advice -- try to stay with your medication and don't switch around a lot unless very necessary. It is not fun, but put one foot in front of the other and persevere. Keep the stress low and watch what you eat. Also get out in the sun. Also start medication at the onset of ms.
